CREW Detroit Members Dig Deep to Beautify Detroit

On April 26th and May 1st, the CREW Detroit Outreach Committee hosted two volunteer tree planting events in partnership with The Greening of Detroit. This nonprofit organization is dedicated to enhancing the quality of life for Detroiters by planting trees, providing job training, and educating youth about the natural environment.
As a network of professionals shaping the built environment, CREW Detroit saw this as an excellent opportunity to give back to the community and showcase our commitment to sustainability. Members and nonmembers alike rolled up their sleeves to contribute, united by a shared passion for making a lasting impact.
Despite the frigid weather in April and the relentless rain in May — classic Michigan spring conditions — nothing could dampen the spirit of our volunteers. The energy and enthusiasm were palpable, reinforcing the power of collective action.
Key Takeaways from the Events:
People Care: Despite the unpredictable weather, volunteers showed up, ready to get dirty, make a difference, and have fun.
Work-Life Balance: While the work was physically demanding, many found the experience of being outside, surrounded by nature, deeply fulfilling.
All are Welcome: The events attracted a diverse mix of participants, including professionals from various companies, families, and children, highlighting the inclusive nature of community service.
Leading with Purpose: Volunteering is a powerful way to strengthen communities, and these tree plantings were a testament to the impact we can have when we come together.
Women Supporting Women: Women are a force for change, often stronger than they realize. Despite the 300-pound weight of the trees, our members moved them with ease and determination, proving that together, we can tackle any challenge.
